Vocabulary Development in all Areas of Learning
What targeted actions did we take to address our school’s learning focus? | We have been focusing on vocabulary development in relation to academic learning in all areas of learning.
Students have represented their learning using a variety of strategies including using visuals and making connections to home language. |
What gap or problem do these actions aim to address? Why was this particular strategy/action chosen? | Strengthening vocabulary skills and making connections to prior learning help our students to better understand the material they are reading. |
Based on quantitative and qualitative data (including feedback from scanning), how effectively has this strategy addressed the identified gap or problem? | We have used our 2024-2025 report card data to establish a baseline of English Language Arts and Numeracy proficiency.
We have also used our 2025 Term 1 RFRA reading assessments to help establish our baseline of Literacy skills.
When the first term of 2025 report card data gets published, we will use this to compare growth. |
How will we move forward accordingly? What adjustments do we need to make if we have or have not achieved our goals? | Going forward, and when available, we will compare future report card data in Literacy and Numeracy to observe growth in student learning.
We will look at strategies to highlight vocabulary acquisition in Numeracy.
We will also look to interview students to gauge their familiarity with explicit Literacy and Numeracy strategies. |
