Learning About Indigenous Language and Culture

Students have been provided with opportunities to better understand the culture of the Musqueam people and the hən̓ q̓ əmin̓ əm̓ language through a variety of activities and changes to our practices, such as learning weather words, raising salmon, daily land acknowledgements, creating a remembering garden, learning about Shannen’s Dream and Spirit Bear, having circle time, using a talking stick, sharing knowledge through literature (stories), and incorporating the First Peoples Principles of Learning into our day.  Collaboration is an important part of our activities to build relationships and community while learning together.
