What should school look like? Feel like? Sound like?

In order to delve deeper into students' sense of belonging, we completed a school-wide activity that unfolded in several parts.

For the first piece, teachers facilitated classroom discussions utilizing such questions as, "What is the purpose of school? Why do we come to school? What do you think a school should look like – feel like – sound like? How do you think students should feel at school?"

Students then worked in groups to create posters to illustrate what schools should be like.

Students and staff alike then completed an anonymous survey to express what they felt their own school was like and offer suggestions if desired.

Students then reviewed as a class their thoughts on what schools should be like and created an individual piece of art that contributed to a collaborative art project.
